This lithograph of Joe Magarac, "the supreme symbol of industrial strength...[who] performed feats of bending red hot steel with his bare hands," is one of a series depicting heroes of American folklore by noted American artist William Gropper (1897-1977).  Gropper was also known for his cartoons on labor themes, many of which appeared in the Communist organs, The Daily Worker and The (Jewish) Morning Freiheit.
